# Glucose

> Glucose is a modern video and audio player for Windows. Glucose 4 (v4.0.0, released 2026-10-24) generates subtitles live as you watch and translates them between English and German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian or Turkish, all on your own PC with no upload. It is pay what you want (including nothing), open source under EUPL-1.2, and made by DoublOne Studios in Finland. The same team makes Glucose for Browser, an extension that translates the captions of streamed videos on your device.

Key facts:

- Platform: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. 9.5 MB installer. No macOS or Linux build yet.
- Price: pay what you want, from $0. Every feature is included at any price. No ads, no account, no telemetry.
- Live subtitles: Whisper runs on your PC while the video plays, a few minutes ahead of the playhead. The seek bar shows the ready range, it follows when you skip, and the results are saved for rewatching. It can start by itself when a video has no subtitles.
- Live translation: 14 language pairs (English to and from German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Turkish), about 20 MB per pair, offline once downloaded. It can show the original line under the translation.
- Smart subtitle position moves subtitles to the top when faces, on-screen text or a bright area are at the bottom.
- The Features tab checks the processor, memory and graphics and says which AI features will run well on that PC.
- Speech models: Tiny (~75 MB), Small (~466 MB), Large V3 Turbo (~574 MB). Full-video subtitle generation follows Netflix-style timing rules.
- Also: media gallery with hover previews, resume playback in every file, Picture-in-Picture, cinematic and fullscreen modes, volume boost to 200%, an audio player with a visualizer, embedded subtitle and audio track support, and keyboard shortcuts for everything.
